Grandpa Van

As I read the information about my Grandpa Van Dalsem, that Sherry sent me, I wanted to share some of my memory's I had about him. What I remember the most is him taking us kids for rides in his model T Ford. It was so really great. One time he took us out to the beach. I was about four years old, that made Judy, 8, and David, 10. I was very scared by the waves and David and Judy pulled me into the waves were I was quickly knock down. Some how Grandpa Van, fully dressed in a suit was also knocked down, also. I could never recall why he was were he could be knocked into the water only that he was down for the count. Always at Christmas and again in the summers he would take us for rides up on Mulhallen Dr. to see all the lights of Los Angeles. It was really beautiful.

I also recall him playing checkers with all the kids and many times letting them win. He could and would at family dinners, at the children's request, wiggle his ears, both of them at the same time. We all thought that was really great. Some times after dinner he would take us for walks.

One of my best time with him was when he took us to see the three ring circus. It was around Easter time and we went to see some one first that gave each of us a hot cross bun. (I didn't really like them very much). The circus was fun but they did every thing at the same time and I couldn't watch it all. We had front row seats and it was so much fun.We all got some cotten candy and were a real mess by the time we came home to Nonnie, (our grandmother).

Grandpa Van worked out in his garadge work shop. He made beautiful wood items on his lay. We children love to play with his magnet on a stick. We could pick up nails and the like with out bending over. Next to the garadge was a fig tree and we could pick the figs and eat them on the long hot summer days.
